NOT WIND NOR WATER BUT FIRE

Some of you may have heard, some may not know. Since Saturday, nine whole days ago, Mya has been fighting a battle against flu A. To give you a fuller picture -

Things started off innocently enough. A mild fever. A slight runny nose and a barely noticeable cough. Sunday went by with all the regular toddler measures. Regular temperature taking, extra hydration and medication. Then Monday came and we realised things were definitely awry. The fever could no longer be controlled by medication but was getting higher by the hour. By dinner time it hit 41.7deg and we were off to the Children's Emergency.

There they did also the usual. A blood test. Then a urine test followed by a snot test. With constant monitoring her temperature seemed under control. By Tuesday evening they let us take her home. But despite rest and fluids all Wednesday and Thursday, the temperature soared to 41.4deg again Friday evening. Another trip to Children's Emergency showed us nothing out of the ordinary. Influenza A takes about ten days to run its course they assured us. Though they admitted Mya's high temperature readings were alarming and not the usual.

Its Monday today and last night was utterly heart-breaking. Her temperature continues to hit 40+ in the nights. But by now exhausted, starved and miserable she curled up into a tiny trembling ball muttering 'mummy, I am so cold.' Already, round the clock medication. Fluid control. Sponging. Cold showers. Fever patches. And still our little girl is suffering crazy spikes.

We are so encouraged by the meals, treats, fruits and even gifts appearing at our door. Thank you for knowing our needs and meeting them so practically. In this period of trial, with Mya fighting fevers and Nathan struggling with flu-like symptoms. Jonathan missing too many classes and Amy trying to maintain the home. We need your prayers and we ask that you intercede for us in our exhaustion.

Folks are beginning to give advice. One told us our home has bad fengshui. Yet another said we are under a spiritual attack.

Where do we stand?

Our take is that our faith is being tested. Not unlike the difficult pregnancy we experienced with Mya. And not unlike the hole in Nathan's heart.

All this to say we are going through fire. But we are not about to lose hope.

We are willing to be refined because we know that He will not test us beyond what we can bear. More than this, that our faith will emerge only stronger and only purer.

Thank you for loving us,
Jonathan, Amy with Mya and Nathan
