NO LESS A MIRACLE

A dear sister texted us to ask on the day of Nathan’s heart review, “how? Was there a miracle?”

To which our reply was, “yes and a resounding yes.”

Like many of you, we were certainly praying for the hole in his heart to close completely. When the symptoms slowly started decreasing in October, we were very optimistic. It must be a miracle we thought. But the heart scan early November showed that the hole was still very much present, except that it had not grown nor decreased in size. Dimensions remained more or less the same as the check up six weeks prior.

Nonetheless, we have decided that this is still no less than a miracle.

From choking during feeds, struggling to breath normally while lying flat on his back to this chubby, happy baby we see now, we recognise that God’s hand is upon him every single day. Simply because God did not give us complete closure, does not mean what he has done for Nathan is not a miracle. Nathan’s very life is a precious gift and that’s what his name means, “the gift”.

Thank you for continuing to journey with us, pouring out prayers, gifts and love to our little family. Mya recently was overjoyed to receive some pajamas this month, she loved how they came in matching sets. Another pajamas episode was so funny, I was just lamenting to God how her tummy was bursting from her long night shirts and we uncovered these hilarious one-piece suit type of pajamas that we bought eons ago but forgot about them.

Thanksgiving for the end of his exams
Pray for a good time of re-connecting with family and especially with Mya this November
Pray for a God-directed time of preparation for both Leaders’ Retreat as well as Youth Camp in Dec

Amy
Thanksgiving that a publisher has accepted her Children’s Book manuscripts
Pray for diligence in Spiritual Disciplines as she stays home with Nathan
Pray for opportunities to witness about God as guests come in and out of our home

Mya
Thanksgiving that she has not fallen seriously ill at all this semester
Pray for opportunity to learn swimming again as classes with her school was discontinued

Nathan
Thanksgiving that doctor has confirmed no need to go through an early operation
Pray for continual good health and growth this next month

A NATE UPDATE

Nathan will be going for open-heart surgery on the 14 th  of August to close the hole in his heart. The hole (VSD) has begun to show signs of leakage and the valve above the hole is starting to deform as a result of the pressure caused by the leak. Should the leak worsen, he will have to undergo two surgeries rather than one. As such, J and I have decided to go ahead with their current suggestion to patch the hole. -- What are your thoughts? Certainly, it is a major surgery and we will take care to prepare Nate (and ourselves) for it. But other than that, we are not too anxious. In contrast, we are grateful for the clarity and confidence the surgeon gave us yesterday. More importantly, we know full well that He is sovereign and in control. This entire heart journey is out of our hands and Nate, like every one of us, is at the mercy of our Creator. We do not think Nate’s condition is worse than any other child or better for that matter. JULY FLY BY

Celebrating my birthday during the lockdown Finally taking time to pen down some thoughts before the onslaught of celebrations ensue. Mya's prayer during the lockdown On the 20 th , Jonathan and I will celebrate seven years of marriage. We recently laughed at how it will take many more years of marriage to outnumber the years we were friends prior (16years). He also turns 30-something on the 25 th of July, having celebrated his graduation with a Masters of Divinity over Zoom he is now serving his beloved youth in a full-time capacity. Nathan turns two on 27 th July. Two evident years of the Lord’s goodness upon us. He is speaking more and more these days although it takes an interpreter (Mya) at times to understand what he is actually saying. He maintains his off the charts size and has begun to show a distinct love for music, dancing even in the middle of throwing a tantrum once music plays.
