NOT MEANINGLESS, NOT MEANINGLESS

June was an intensive lesson in learning to love each other as family. When everyone is at home and we are forced to get along with one another all day every day, things can get very trying. Why isn’t the toddler putting on her shoes after five reminders? Why is the baby throwing his food on the floor instead of eating? Why are breakfast dishes still in the sink at lunch time? And the list of grievances goes on and on until eternity.

Yet none of these June days were meaningless. Two trips to the Singapore Zoo. An extended family holiday to Thailand, a very typical Ji-family getaway, full of beach days, coffee stops and local food feasting. A short getaway with Jonathan to Batam for a staff retreat, getting to have extended conversations with old friends undisturbed by the need to rush off somewhere. A farewell for a precious Korean classmate. And finally, a combined church camp across the causeway where we saw true community in action.

July is now upon us and school is about to begin. Here are our prayer pointers –

Jonathan
1.       Final year of Seminary begins, pray for discipline and passion to have a strong start.
2.       Bible Study season at the Youth Ministry, pray he will have strength to lead and be encouraged by the word himself.
3.       With assignments, late nights begin, pray for good health and a clear mind.

Amy
1.       Taking up one course this semester, pray for a quick readjustment to school
2.       Juggling multiple side jobs (editing, writing, training). Pray for good time management.
3.       Homefront, please pray for wisdom in bringing up godly children.

Mya
1.       Physical health to be protected, her school had a wave of HFMD cases in June.
2.       Love for God and his word through Sunday School and BSF to grow.

Nathan
1.       Extended sleep. Has not slept through the night thus far.
2.       Good health, that the hole in his heart will not hinder his growth or development.

A NATE UPDATE

Nathan will be going for open-heart surgery on the 14 th  of August to close the hole in his heart. The hole (VSD) has begun to show signs of leakage and the valve above the hole is starting to deform as a result of the pressure caused by the leak. Should the leak worsen, he will have to undergo two surgeries rather than one. As such, J and I have decided to go ahead with their current suggestion to patch the hole. -- What are your thoughts? Certainly, it is a major surgery and we will take care to prepare Nate (and ourselves) for it. But other than that, we are not too anxious. In contrast, we are grateful for the clarity and confidence the surgeon gave us yesterday. More importantly, we know full well that He is sovereign and in control. This entire heart journey is out of our hands and Nate, like every one of us, is at the mercy of our Creator. We do not think Nate’s condition is worse than any other child or better for that matter. GOD CHANGES OUR PLANS

     First up, a very blessed Lunar New Year to all readers of Our Animated Journey. And thank you for your patience. We have good reason for this delayed update which you will read about very quickly. But I just wanted to say before that, thank you so much for all your love and prayers! We have been receiving your gifts, emails and texts of encouragement, and it fuels us on in this journey. Thank you!                  As the title post reveals, God has decided to change our plans quite significantly this year. Initially, I (Amy) was meant to finish my Theological studies in 2019 and begin part-time work (secular) whilst volunteering in the church Missions department thereafter. However, our gracious Father has decided to give Jonathan and I another child!      We are very grateful that Mya will finally have a sibling.
